Early Childhood Home Visitors provide services and promote healthy family life through referrals, screening and assessment, home visitation and training utilizing the Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum, group classes, marketing, case record management, and reporting.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Expectant parents and parents with children under 5 shall be assessed and screened for child abuse risk, using the established National & State screening tools and procedures  
  • All families with children ages 0 to 5 are eligible for NM Home Visiting  
  • Ensure home visitation services use the PAT Curriculum for all parents accepting Thriving Kids Home Visiting services  
  • Report suspected child abuse and domestic abuse/violence to the local authorities via SCI as required & support families during their review.   
  • Ensure that home visiting services are fully documented in the required database within the required timeframe.   
  • Ensure that all referrals, assessment, screening, and educational services, and goals for parents are entered and counted in the database.  
  • Ensure fellow staff delivery services account for all services scheduled and delivered in a timely manner.   
  • Demonstrates effective facilitation of individual/small group training skills for diverse audiences.   
  • Understands group dynamics; demonstrates self-awareness and empathy/sensitivity to others.  
  • Demonstrates the ability to embrace diverse cultures and beliefs and to develop professional relationships with community members and professionals.   
  • Communicates verbally and in writing clearly and concisely and effectively conveys ideas.  
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple priorities, illustrates attention to detail, and shows evidence of being conscientious regarding strict deadlines.  
  • Skill using appropriate software programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Power Point as well as data collection programs.  
  • Experience in early childhood education settings, home visiting, &/or childcare centers.  
  • Experience or training in development and implementation of parenting skills curriculum.   
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional schedule, including occasional evenings & weekends.  
  • Supervisory Responsibilities 
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.  

Required Education and/or Experience Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma/GED; or High School equivalency   
  • 2 years of experience in the field of early childhood education; maternal/child health, child development and/or public health.  
  • Desire to pursue Higher Education in a related field to ensure well-qualified staff pursuant to Home Visiting standards by both State & Federal recommended credentials.    

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Articulates an understanding of adult learning principles and techniques   
  • Associate degree or higher in related fields; Social Work, Family & Consumer Science, Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Psychology, or Public Health  
  •  Demonstrated experience in conducting program evaluations.   
  • Articulates understanding of basic evaluation techniques and use of customer feedback to improve overall program effectiveness/impact  
  • Articulates an understanding of Reflective Practice.  
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish highly preferred but not required.     

Other Skills and Abilities 

  • U.S. Citizenship, a valid driver’s license, transportation, and auto insurance are required.

Physical Demands: Works in office areas. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours. Uses personal computers, telephones, copiers, printers and other office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 Home Visitor Job Duties  

  •  Attend required trainings to become certified in the Parents as Teachers Curriculum 
  • Attend New Home Visitor Training Interactive Orientation Sessions with UNM CDD 
  • Work closely to support expectant parents and parents/caregivers with children under 5, children shall be assessed and screened for child abuse risk, using the established National & State screening tools and procedures  
  • Recruit families throughout funded counties in New Mexico with children ages 0 to 5 for NM Home Visiting  
  • Ensure home visitation services use the PAT Curriculum Model 
  • Maintain required caseload of families, conducting personal visits (2 visits of 45 to 60 minutes with no less than 90 minutes (about 1 and a half hours) of direct contact per month) with each enrolled family on a bi-weekly basis, or more frequently if high needs/risks arise requiring more assistance/support. 
  • Adequately prepare for all personal visits, which include reading appropriate parent educator resources, printing relevant handouts and gathering materials for parent-child activities.  
  •  Clearly document details of each visit, assessments, screenings, referrals to resources, family goals etc. and enter data system in accordance with NM HV Standards or Program specific requirements. Assist in developing and maintaining a current community resource guide that includes all necessary information to link families to identified supports and services. 
  • Work with Thriving Kids team to plan, coordinate, & facilitate monthly parent group connections gatherings for enrolled families & when applicable to other community members.  
  • . Respecting agency vehicles, proper usage of assigned technology devices and timely reporting of an incident involving a vehicle and or devices should occur. 
  •  Meet with supervisor &/or contracted Reflective Consultant at a minimum of twice monthly for reflective supervision sessions.     
  • Meet with a supervisor as necessary to discuss procedures, protocol, and other administrative processes to ensure quality record keeping, data entry, and quality provision of services to families.  
  • Participate in the PAT program’s staff meetings, and staff meetings and participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI).  
  • Help parents and children transition to other services as needed, such as preschool or kindergarten. This includes developing transition plans.  
  •  Complete annual required competency-based professional development hours to remain certified as a Parents as Teachers parent educator.  
  • Attending other training courses and meetings as required by ECECD.  
  • Timely response to emails and actively utilizing Teams as required by the agency CEO (Chief Executive Officer).  
  • Report suspected child abuse and domestic abuse/violence to the local authorities via Statewide Central Intake (SCI) as required & support families during their review.     
  • Demonstrates effective facilitation of individual/small group training skills for diverse audiences.
