A volunteer position that will advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico (CAASNM) to support the organization’s mission and needs.

Major responsibilities:

  • Promote CAASNM in the community
  • Fundraising and Outreach
  • Monitor the financial health of the organization
  • Ensure the organization is working toward the fulfillment of its mission
  • Support and Direct the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
  • Participate in a standing committee

Length of term: Five years, which may be renewed up to a maximum of ten (10) years, pending approval of the board and after a one-year break.

Meetings and time commitment:

  • The board of directors meets quarterly on the third Thursday 5:30 PM at the main CAASNM office in Las Cruces, NM.
  • Committees of the board meet an average of three-nine times per year, pending their respective work agenda
  • Board members are asked to attend all special events
  • Board members can attend meetings via teleconference
  • Reimbursement for mileage or hotel is provided
  • Attend New BOD member orientation within a year of being appointment
  • Attend an annual Board Retreat
  • Attend at least one Board training a year

Expectations of board members:

  • Attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis, and special events
  • Participate on one to three committees of the board as needed
  • Be alert to community concerns that can be addressed by CAASNM mission, objectives, and programs
  • Help communicate and promote CAASNM mission to the community
  • Become familiar with CAASNM finances, budget, and financial/resource needs
  • Financially support CAASNM in a manner commensurate with one’s ability
  • You will be asked to sign conflict of interest and confidentiality agreement(s)
