Pearson was recognized for his role as a passionate spokesperson and advocate for increasing safe transportation options for bicyclists and pedestrians. Many of Las Cruces’ bikeways and walkways are the result of his intensive efforts at the local, regional and state level. The award was created in 2018 to first honor Larry Cottingham, who contributed over 15 years volunteering to help manage CAASNM’s free tax preparation program. The award is now made to an outstanding southern New Mexico individual who represents the spirit of community service and action.
