Coats For Kids
Once again the Family Resource Services program is gearing up for Coats for Kids project.
Coats for Kids is an annual event that CAA participates in with Access Bank, 101 Gold, and Alameda Cleaners,
in order to help provide children with a nice warm coat for the winter months. Generally distribution takes
place at the bank; however this year distribution will be at Community Action Agency.
Registration for the program will begin on October 17th and will end on November 17th. The income guidelines
that are used for the program are the CSBG guidelines. Families are required to bring social security cards for
the children (if they have them), proof of income for one month, a utility bill, and a picture ID. Employees qualify
for the program as long as you meet CSBG guidelines. Registration will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays 1-5 p.m.
and Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 8-12 p.m
Anyone who would like to volunteer to register families is more than welcome. We will also need volunteers to pick
up and drop off coats at the cleaners. Distribution will be on December 3rd and we will need volunteers on this day
to assist families in getting their coats. If you have any questions you can contact Andrea at: 541-7948, or ext 123.

Back To School 05
This year the Covering Kids Coalition held two back to school events. Our first event was in Anthony, New Mexico at
Anthony Middle School. Amy Ramirez did an excellent job setting everything up for the Anthony event. There were various
agencies from the area that participated. About 350 backpacks were given out, 34 children were immunized, about 400 children
were fingerprinted by identichild, and there were lots of great raffle prizes. I would like to personally thank Minnie Gonzalez
and her daughter for volunteering that day, you were awesome. Molina and Lovelace were sponsors for this event.
In Las Cruces the Covering Kids Coalition worked with the Junior League of Las Cruces, Molina, and Lovelace to put on an awesome event. Several agencies from the area participated, 400 backpacks were given out, 63 children were immunized, and the Junior League gave out 1,500 books. There was entertainment for all ages and jumping balloons for the kids (I didn't get to jump this year).
There were several people who volunteered for the Las Cruces event and I would just like to say a big THANK YOU! It makes me feel good to know that we have staff that is willing to give up their Saturday to help with events like this. Things like this remind me why I work for CAA, and why we do the work we do. I especially would like to thank Amy, Lovell, and Mercedes for all of the hard work they put into the event. Most importantly I would like to thank our own PR person Laura Hernandez for all of the long hours and fights that went into the event. Also I can't forget Henry Montez and the Food Bank for all of their help; I have never seen Henry move so fast.
