Food Bank
The Yucca Council Boy Scouts of America / Gila Lodge are helping various food banks in El Paso and southern New Mexico to collect food in February of 2010. For collections areas and more information, take a look at the Scouting for Food flyer.
Food Bank Services and Eligibility Requirements
ALL Food Programs are distributed to Member Agencies, Churches, Shelters, Group Homes, Soup Kitchens where each agency then distributes to individuals that must qualify for food services. Counties served are: Dona Ana, Luna, Grant, Hidalgo, Sierra, and Otero
TEFAP - Monthly food distribution to all ages through member agencies. Requirements: Income Eligibility guidelines apply, proof of residency and Identification required to receive USDA Commodities
FEMA: Emergency Food Pantry (for Dona Ana County residents ONLY)
K.I.D.S.: Kids in Distressed Situations - new clothing for area infants and school aged children (distributed through non-profit organizations and schools thorough outreach efforts)
Senior Therapeutic Meals - for home bound seniors (55+). Diet-specific shelf stable food items and nutritious meals delivered in 35lb. boxes once per month. (distributed through caregivers, Senior Services, churches and other Non-profit organizations; Las Cruces residents ONLY)
Feeding America Food Program - Food for purchase by member agencies that have a 501 (c ) 3 status or a church that qualifies. Members may purchase food items at a reduced rate. Some items carry a .19cent per pound shared maintenance fee.
